[Info] Cross Breeders

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding. There are many other aspects to crossbreeding, and we wish to include all if possible
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful default smiley :)

Here are a few points for beginners:
♦ If both parents are purebred, then the foal will present as the fathers’ breed
♦ If one or both are not purebred, then the foal will take on whatever is the dominant breed
♦ We cannot convert crossbreeds back to purebred. The most they will ever be is 99%
♦ When blupping, you need to take into account the top 3GP skills of the *individual* horse, not necessarily the breed it presents as
♦ The most important thing when it comes to crossbreeding? - to have fun default smiley ;)

Please bear in mind this is not the place to advertise coverings, nor is it for selling horses.

Thanks

You could have a go at Hanoverian X French Trotter. That would make a pretty good cross country horse and maybe it'll surprise you default smiley ;)

A Hano/Trotter cross wouldn't do that well in XC comps, seeing as how neither breed has strong stamina stats. Now, a Hano/Criollo cross would probably work out nicely, seeing as how Criollos have strong stamina.

So sorry for the confusion, mental blank. You could do a French Trotter X Tennesse Walker for trot default smiley (y)

French troopers already have great trot, why add the TWH?
Okay! default smiley ^) Finally, after all the Christmas drama and family meet ups. I was able to sit down and work on my crossbreeding project!

It all started when Laureal-Valadis was extremely nice and gave me two twin crossbred foals to help me start off. default smiley (y)

I BLUPed and trained both foals and ended up giving one a Z.bolt so I could breed them.
Both foals (after finishing all their training) ended up having just over 2800GP.

Twin foals;
1. Blind Love
2. Pᴏᴡᴇʀ Fʀᴏᴍ Wɪᴛʜɪɴ

When I bred them both together with A.tears, I ended up getting this foal --> Silence
He almost hit 2800 GP, its a shame he didn't.

After a little bit, I decided to breed one of the twin foals with a good GP arabian. I bred the foal with A.tears and ended up with him --> Iᴍᴍᴏʀᴛᴀʟ ♡

If I have time tomorrow, I'm sure I'll start to train the foal. default smiley (y)
Well, thats my crossbreeding adventure so far default smiley ;)
So far I'm pleased with the progress I've made.

Hi.

I haven't done any crossbreeding before and I want to breed good barrel racers. I'm pretty sure I should start with a mustang mare and add on the main skills from there, but I don't know what other breeds I should use or what minimum GP. Also, I've heard breeding without blupping is very bad, but why?

Thanksdefault smiley (y)

hey all, I seem to have run into a problem.

Does anyone know how to increase trot without affecting the other stats too badly. Such as what breed would be best?
It's mainly for these two.

Geisha
Warlord

Any help would be amazing, and thank you in advance. default smiley :d

I would say for those just starting that Tennesse Walker cross Arabian or Thoroughbred.

Hope this helps, default smiley :d

How do I breed high gp crossbreed which breeds would be best to cross
If you're just going for GP, an Arabian/Knab cross is going to be your best bet. Unless things have changed in the last few months, those are going to be the only high GP breeds you'll have access to in the public coverings.

do you think knabstruppers X gypsy vanner make a good combo
Retired breeder wrote:

To breed a great jumper you would want to cross a jumping breed(shetland, hanoverian, KWPN) with a speed+dressage breed (arab, paint, appy)

what would be a good breed to cross for cross country
By Retired breeder, 8th June 2016 09:33:22
i have cross bred gypsy vanner with knabstrupper but i am not sure what to cross her with now any ideas i would put a link but i cant get it to work so you could look at her from my profile page her name is crossbred project
Ponygirl- I recommend writing out a list of Classical and Western comps, and the skills used for each comp type. The fun of cross breeding is bringing two breeds together to see what you can get. Have some fun, try different combinations, see what works for you. There's only so much advice we can give you on this topic- the best way to learn is to do it yourself. default smiley :)
